Your Guide to Self-Care in the NYC During Covid

your guide to self care in the city mandy ansari girl and the

It is so very important to take care of yourself, even more-so after everything that happened in 2020 (good riddance, blessings ahead, amen). There are so many exceptional places to go to in the city to get your #selfcare in and we wanted to create a roadmap for you of our favorite spots to hit up when we need some self-love and self-care in our lives.

Chillhouse

Chillhouse is the first place that comes to mind when we think of self-care. Chillhouse is the place you need to go to have all of your mani and pedi needs and relaxation satisfied (above and beyond). Chillhouse is the most fun, unique, and incredible women-founded salon in SoHo off of Varick Street. Book an appointment for everything (literally) if you have the time. Treat yourself to a facial, a massage, and some time in the sauna to melt all of your worries away.

Bath House

Bath House is a gem in Brooklyn where you can grab an exquisite massage, a stretch, a scrub, and / or a facial. Bath House has pools for you to soak, saunas to get a little sweat in, and a phenomenal food and beverage menu to enjoy a wonderful bite if you’re up for a full-day affair.

Aire

At Aire you can choose from a number of different ancient bath rituals in this wonderful, healing bath house located in the middle of TriBeCa. Aire is an oasis you’ll never want to leave. Book an experience at Aire as soon as possible to refresh your spirit completely.

Sojo Spa

Sojo is a day spa that is beyond worth the trip to NJ for. Grab a girlfriend (or a boo) and head out to Edgewater for a day full of self-care that you really deserve. There are so many great amenities available at Sojo Spa and Mandy’s personal favorites are the heated pools, the foot massage path, and the massage and body scrub services. Best of all, the pool overlooks the breathtaking NYC skyline.

Four Seasons bodywork

This might be the best hidden-secret of self-care in the city — meet All Seasons Body Work, the place where you’ll get a massage that will keep you coming back over and over. These massages are so reasonably priced so you can add this element of self-care into your regular schedule instead of just treating yourself to a massage every few months. You really can’t go wrong here. Our favorite location is off of 8th street in Greenwich Village but they have several locations that you can check out here. Thank us later.

Face Gym

When is the last time that you worked out your face? Face Gym is a really cool company that is dedicated to your face health - getting your facial muscles and skin worked out through special techniques and methods they've patented. You can book a studio workout at one of their local NYC studios here.

Clean Market

Clean Market is a really fun and cool spot to spend a few hours pampering yourself with their treatments ranging from cryotherapy, to infrared sauna therapy, IV drips and more with a full signature wellness shop to stock up on some at-home self care when you leave. They have a location in Midtown and you can book your services through their website here. They also offer COVID-19 testing here as well which is just magnificent.

Ling Skincare Spa

If you’ve ever wondered what the best facial in NYC is — we have your answer. Ling was named “Best Facial” by New York Magazine, Allure, and Forbes. You can view all of the facials available and book yourself a facial experience that you’ll never forget here.

Take Care

Take Care is a company dedicated to self-care and wellness from within. Take Care’s flagship is located on Waverly Place in West Village, offering a wide variety of health and longevity services, like facials, body treatments, immunity support, vitamin shots, IV’s, and so much more. They also have a nutritionist and a nurse practitioner in studio which is a really wonderful feature of Take Care. They have locations in Greenwich Village, Rose Hill, East Village, Lower Manhattan, Gramercy Park, Flatiron District, Chelsea, Gramercy Park, and Peter Cooper Village, so there are a lot of options and hopefully a location close to you!

Sundays Nail Studio

Sundays is a nail studio and salon that is centered around wellness, offering nail services that are vegan and non-toxic in NoMad and Hudson Yards. Stepping into Sundays Studio is a therapeutic experience in and of itself, and the phenomenal nail services are just a cherry on top. Book your appointment online here.

The Class by Taryn Toomey

The Class is a cathartic workout experience that guides you to strengthen the body and notice the mind to restore balance. You can take The Class by Taryn Toomey all in the comfort of your own home which is incredible for those of you who are immuno-compromised or who do not feel comfortable venturing out for self-care quite yet. You can browse all experiences and classes online here.

Treatment by Lanshin

Lanshin is a really unique Traditional Chinese Medicine focused studio offering original facials, accupuncture, and body treatments to support and boost your overall wellness (and mood!). Lanshin uses a holistic approach with Traditional Chinese medicine to aid in restoring your body and your skin to its natural radiance and vitality. Head over to Williamsburg to experience all of the magic Lanshin offers to NYC.

Ommmango Wellness

Before opening Ommmango Wellness, her acupuncture and massage therapy studio in Fort Greene, Gina Pierre had already gone through a few transitions. She’d had a career in modern and West African dance. After becoming a mother in her 20s, she reinvented herself as a schoolteacher. “I knew I needed to do something that served others, but the solution I was looking for really was healing,” she says. Pierre found her modality of choice in acupuncture (she’s also a licensed massage therapist), opening Ommmango Wellness six years ago.

Though located on the well-beaten path of Fulton Street, Ommmango Wellness bears the qualities of a serene, remote getaway. “My training comes from integrative health, where we’re taught to focus on being clinical — but I feel healing is spiritual,” says Pierre. So instead of a hospital setting with cold, hard chairs, she sought a comfy retreat with plush couches, soothing candles and a spacious deck for warm-weather yoga sessions.

Erika Bloom Pilates

Mindful movement is an essential key to overall wellness, health, and happiness. Erika Bloom Pilates is a remarkable pilates studio that is focused on calming and centering your body through intentional movement. Erika has beautifully curated space and a practice that will help you to find joy and peace through pushing and appreciating your body for all of the wonderful things it is capable of and all of the things that it does for you daily. You can book a private online session here.

Kristine Fredheim

Sometimes self-care means finding clarity through mediums and readings from psychics so you can be your best and highest self. Kristine is a psychic medium who offers reading to bring clarity to your life and guidance in areas where you need it - someone who will be lovingly honest so that you can live your most authentic life and let go of things that are no longer serving you. We highly recommend her services which you can find online here.

Heal Haus

With a wide range of holistic practices under one roof, HealHaus is sort of a one-stop shop for the mind, body and spirit. “We’re not telling people what they need to do,” Elisa says of the à la carte approach. “It’s like, ‘Yo, this is your healing journey.’ It’s supposed to be messy. It’s not very linear. You explore your own healing process by discovering what works for you in a community where you can feel supported.”

The journey may lead you to Vinyasa yoga, Zen Shiatsu bodywork, cupping, mindful breath meditation, couples therapy, reiki or Adinkra ancestral readings — all offered at HealHaus in a serene setting mapped out by Elisa, an interior designer.

Joanna Vargas

Joanna Vargas is today’s it-esthetician for today’s it-celebrities, and anyone who wants gorgeous, glowing skin that endures. Ansley Eudy Mandy Ansari Girl and The

Ansley Eudy

Never passing up an opportunity for a laugh or a big hug, you can find Ansley, complete with her Atlanta accent and ray-of-sunshine-personality in Brooklyn.

Born and raised in Georgia, Ansley spent most of her early twenties living on the beautiful Florida panhandle and spent a little over a year in Charlotte, NC before finally planting her roots and her heart in Brooklyn.  When she’s not behind-the-scenes for Girl and The, she’s very likely to be holding a baby somewhere, organizing a closet, or jogging in Prospect Park listening to her favorite trap music or psychology podcast.

Ansley brings attention detail, incredible penmanship, an obsession with streamlining processes and order to everything she touches, as well as a love for self-help and mental health. She’s a proponent of therapy and will encourage everyone she knows to never be afraid to ask for help or invest in their own wellness journey. Needless to say, she is an integral part of the team.
