18 Things That Don't Define You

Screen Shot 2020-06-16 at 8.29.55 PM.png

1. your marital status ⁣
2. your income⁣
3. what people say + think about you ⁣
4. past relationships where you weren’t your best self⁣
5. your weight (currently replacing my negative thoughts with “i love and accept my body for what it looks like today” bc quarantine’s limited physical activity has had me revisiting negative body image thoughts i thought i had healed from 🙄 and that’s ok) ⁣
6. someone’s inability to recognize and/or communicate your worth⁣
7. who your parents were/are⁣
8. mistakes you’ve made in the past⁣
9. trauma you’ve experienced⁣
10. the number of likes, comments and followers you get (hey, laugh all you want, but this is a *thing* for many and social media plays a role in our daily lives, so, it’s ok if you struggle with this) ⁣
11. your age ⁣
12. your academic accomplishments⁣
13. your gender ⁣
14. the color of your skin (it’s beautiful because it’s yours and that’s what matters) ⁣
15. your ethnicity + background (even tho i’m hella proud of mine 😂) ⁣
16. your physical appearance ⁣
17. your parental status ⁣
18. your occupation ⁣

mistaking that your worth, importance and who you are is defined by what you do, how you look, and who you are in the eyes of the world can result in sweeping, general anxiety. the more attached we become to these false identities, the more our egos or “false selves” gain strength, and the harder it becomes to break free from this false narrative. it is absolutely ESSENTIAL that you realize that even though these identities are part of your life, they are not the core of your being. ⁣

you are enough, just as you are today 💛⁣
you are you and THAT is your superpower ⚡️⁣
