You Need to Celebrate Galentine's Day Because Ladies Celebrating Ladies Is The Best Idea Leslie Knope Ever Had

Do you wish there was a day dedicated to celebrating your girlfriends for all the fabulousness they bring to your life? Well, Leslie Knope of Parks and Recreation made this very special holiday a thing and now we all get to celebrate. What's Galentine's Day you ask? Let me let the fictitious woman who invented it all explain it to you:

"Oh it's only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It's like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas."

Yup, that's a Leslie Knope quote, straight from one of the funniest television series ever made, Parks and Rec. While there may be some things about Leslie Knope that are a little off the wall, I have to say, girl got it right with this. Feb. 14 can be all about your significant other, so let Feb. 13 be all about those who won't leave you even if he does... your BFFs.

Now, I like to bend the rules (as usual) and don't like being confined to one single day - February 13th don't work out for you? Well, the whole month of February works for a celebration. Grab your girls together to celebrate friendship - you don't need a deadline or timeline to do that, right? Frankly, it should be a year 'round thang.

My dear friend and fellow blogger babe, Sarah Tripp of Sassy Red Lipstick, hosted the loveliest Galentine's Day Brunch at Le Marais Bakery in San Francisco. She spoiled us with good eats, the most beautiful ambiance, adorable and generous favors and the most important gift of all, the company of incredible women who are dedicated to the hustle and supporting other women. I am so grateful for the community of hardworking women I know. Sarah is one of the most thoughtful ladies I've had the pleasure of meeting, so of course she even thought of having the talented Alexis Exstrom there to take photos we could cherish long after our time together (plus, what group of bloggers wouldn't want a trillion photos of all the cute details to relive for many #TBTs and #FBFs to come).

Y'all know I love a good quote. Here are 12 quotes that remind us of just how important the girlfriends in our life are and why we should never forget to take the time to celebrate the important boss babes in our lives.

4. "We're getting ready to take over the world. My group of girlfriends — we're renegades." — Lisa Bonet

10. "The only people you can really share certain things with in secret are your girlfriends." — Sherry Knight

11. "I still have friends from primary school. And my two best girlfriends are from secondary school. I don't have to explain anything to them. I don't have to apologize for anything. They know. There's no judgement in any way." — Emma Watson

Here's to strong women, ladies. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise 'em!
