DIY: Make Your House Smell Like a Winter Wonderland

A walk by any Christmas tree stand in your neighborhood or a holiday cookie exchange will tell you this: The holidays are officially here. It’s impossible not to let out an “mmmmm” and have a mini nostalgia moment when you smell the sweet and comforting aromas of pine, nutmeg, cinnamon, oranges and cranberry. We’re making it extremely easy for you to capture that holiday sensory experience in your home with just a few ingredients. Here are two totally natural ways create your own cozy and inviting holiday scent. Bonus: Both are great ways to welcome guests to your holiday party.

Stovetop Elixir

Make a homemade potpourri by adding pine branches, orange, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon sticks and cranberries to a pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Simmer uncovered for as long as you like, just remember to add water as needed so the pot doesn’t run dry.

DIY Garland

Using yarn and dried orange slices, thread the yarn through the dried slices to make a homemade garland that smells ah-mazing. The warm and spicy scent also adds a pop of color to your tree or mantle. Plus, this garland can be turned into ornaments or gift toppers.
